Psy’s “Gagnam Style” was the most-watched video on YouTube for a long time, almost five years. It was the first video to reach 1 billion views, Gagnam Style now has 2,894,653,630 views, but that’s no longer sufficient to hold the title Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again,” featuring Charlie Puth, has taken over.
“See You Again” broke the record on the Google-owned service Monday and has been viewed nearly 2.9 billion times (yes, billion) as of Tuesday morning.
After knowing the news that he’s now the new record holder, Puth took to Twitter to tell fans that he never imagined he’d reach this kind of milestone. “For the record, I joined YouTube in 2007 hoping to make a video that would reach 10,000 views,” the singer wrote. “Just heard about See You Again…wow.”
The video was first uploaded in April 2015 and announced the expected release of “Furious 7” following the death of Paul Walker.
Thanks to the crazy views on “Gangnam Style” and “See You Again”, YouTube had to rewrite its code to up the number of maximum views.
